Day 18: Drink

This was our view from drinks and appetizers tonight.  San Diego is gorgeous and I never want to leave.

And we were lucky enough to be sitting right under one of these heat lamps... AMAZING!

Day 17: Time

Here is my attempt to freeze time.  This street performer in San Diego was nuts.  I haven't quite figured out how he does all of this... but pretty impressive... yet very gross.

Day 16: Something New

Wet Willies in San Diego!  A frozen daiquiri bar?  Yes please!  Crazy place with amazing drinks.

Day 14: Heart

Valentine's Day marketing sure worked on this girl...

Day 13: Blue

Light Installation at the Bean! More to come in a later post...

Day 11: Makes You Happy

This man.

I mean, who do you know who does these things?  Ha, he keeps me on my toes.

Day 10: Self Portrait

Not going to lie... the self portrait didn't happen... but here are my two favorite photos of me right now.

Me with my cousin's baby, Hudson.

Peace signs in Cali...

Follow up to January's Photo Competition

Well, I didn't win January's Photo Competition - nor did I expect to, but it was fun to just get my feet wet and see how the other photographers tackled the same subject.

Here is a screen shot of January's winner - "Raindrop at Dusk" by Lorette Dodt.  Pretty impressive, I will definitely have to continue working on my macro photography.

Hold that Cab!

The Gorgeous John Hancock Tower

Stats on the John Hancock Center
  • 875 North Michigan Avenue
  • 100 Story / 1,127 foot / 344 m tall skyscraper
  • When the building was built in 1968, it was the tallest building in the world outside of NYC
  • It is currently the fourth tallest building in Chicago and the sixth tallest building in the US
  • The building is home to restaurants, offices, 700 condominiums including Best Buy, Cheesecake Factory, Jamba Juice, The North Face, the Signature Room, and Aveda.
  • Jerry Springer maintains a residence on the 91st floor
  • Prior to Chris Farley's death, the two lived in adjacent residences and Farley later died in the building.

Viagra Triangle

There is a special little area in Chicago known as the Viagra Triangle.  Kind of an interesting name, huh?  Ha, the Viagra Triangle is a triangle of restaurants and bars in the Gold Coast neighborhood.  It is known for - you guessed it - the abundance of mostly older men who frequent the local bars paying with their corporate credit cards.  The joke is that the much younger girls who go out in this area require a personal financial statement before sitting down with you for dinner... okay, not really, but one could say the stereotype is that they are gold diggers.  I thought it was pretty perfect that these three gentlemen just so happen to be hanging out by the Christmas tree I was photographing.

Lots of fabulous restaurants and bars -

And within walking distance of stores like these (don't mind the security guard giving me the evil eye) -

Shots from Old Town

I've mentioned before that I think Old Town (one of Chicago's many neighborhoods) is one of the cutest places ever.  Division Street is general thought of as the south border of this neighborhood.  Here are a couple shots from a recent visit.

Intersection of Division & State -

Pretty crazy staircase, huh?  Hopefully they don't have too many fire drills.

Close up of the Hancock Building and surrounding buildings.

Day 5: 10:00am

February 5: 10:00am
This is a very typical weekend morning at 10:00am for me.  Bowl of cereal + photo editing on my Mac + rocking out to music.  Life is good.

Day 4: A Stranger

February 4: A Stranger
Today's theme was a little intimidating a first... I didn't really feel like going up to a homeless guy on the street and asking him if I could take his photo.  Although, I'm sure it would have been a good one, it probably would have cost me at least my pocket change, haha.  I've been wanting to get to this mural since I found out it existed.  I love this shot, but I think the colors could be even better in the daylight so stay tuned for another visit.

And finally, a shot of a bunch of strangers!  Apparently we weren't the only ones going super bowl grocery shopping on Saturday night.  Procrastinators unite!

Day 3: Hands

February 3: Hands
Today, rather than going with the straightforward photography of my hands or a friends, I decided to shoot the "hands" on a clock - so what better than the Wrigley Building?  And then I ran into this hand-prominent statue of "Mr. Chicago" aka Irv Kupcinet.  The statue's plaque said - "Irv embodied the city he loved with all his energy and enthusiasm.  In his Chicago Sun-Times column and on his television shows, Kupcinet was honest, accurate and fair, and his commitment to charity was one we should all aspire to match." - Mayor Richard M Daley.  Pretty cool if you ask me.

Day 2: Words

February 2: Words
Today's theme is words, so I thought I would take photos of a couple signs around town... one catch, I only took part of the words in the signs.  Can you guess what all of the companies are below?  I think they are pretty easy, but can you get all of them?  Comment below with your guesses and I will give the answers out tomorrow.

Day 1: My View Today

February 1: My View Today
Today's photo was taken by my cell phone (lame, I know).  This is what my view looked like for the majority of today... and most everyday at the Alzheimer's Association.  Feel free to make fun of my interesting set up and the fact that I still use a paper calendar for some things... I refuse to go completely digital (sorry, techie husband).

February Photo Challenge

Spicing things up a little bit and taking a photo challenge for the month of February!  I am excited to see if I am able to stick to the list.  Believe it or not, after all my years of taking endless amounts of photographs, I have never even attempted a monthly photo a day challenge!

I think this challenge will help me take photos of items I wouldn't normally take (i.e. inside your bathroom cabinet... not so sure how I feel about that one, ha) and I also see this forcing me to be more creative as I take shots of some very everyday items.  Follow along and feel free to critique!
